It’s a modern take on traditional ethnography. So instead of researchers flying all over the world and taking weeks on end to go and meet research participants, to understand how they behave in their everyday lives, what we do at Indeemo is we provide you with a smartphone screen recording app that helps researchers connect one-to-one with respondents in any location in any time.
Respondents can show researchers how they’re behaving in their everyday lives, in their everyday contexts, using videos and photos.
How does Mobile Ethnography Work?
So in practise, it’s super simple to use. Recruited respondents use a smartphone app to complete tasks and activities designed by researchers to get respondents to record how they actually behave in their everyday lives. Researchers then log in on a Pinterest-style dashboard and they get to see those videos and pictures in real time and interact with the respondents remotely.
How do you Source Respondents?
So recruitment for online qualitative research / mobile ethnography is pretty much the same as how you’d recruit for a focus group or an IDI. You work through qualitative recruiters who will source and screen respondents for you, incentivize them to take part and complete tasks on the mobile ethnography project.
