Methodology · Usability Testing

See your product in real use, where the friction actually lives.

Usability testing in Indeemo means task-based, async, screen-recorded sessions on the participant's own device: the friction they actually hit, the workaround they actually invent, the abandon they actually do.

Why Usability Testing In Indeemo

Three things usability testing in Indeemo gives you that a moderated lab session can't

Their device, their data, their context

Their device, their account, their actual data, their actual battery level. The friction they have at home, on the train, on the way to work, captured where it lives.

Asynchronous, at sprint cadence

Field on Monday. Watch clips on Tuesday. Ship the fix on Wednesday. Indeemo runs at the speed of product, not the speed of a research panel.

Real tasks, real friction, real abandons

Indeemo captures what actually happens when participants are on their own: the rage tap, the back-button rage, the moment they would have closed the app in real life.

How It Works In Indeemo

A usability study, end to end

Four stages, one platform: from plan to deliver.

01
Plan
Targeted screening on platform, device, account status, and behaviour: current users, prospects, lapsed users, competitor users. Then design tasks at the level of real intent: open-ended ("show us how you usually..."), task-based ("try to..."), comparative ("now try this on a competitor"). Each task carries a clear instruction, screen recording, voice narration, and a post-task rating plus reflection.

02
Capture
Participants tap-to-record their screen with audio narration. Indeemo captures the full session: the swipes, the back taps, the rage scrolls, the moments of relief. Asynchronous, on their own time, completed within hours.

03
Analyse
Auto-transcription of voice narration. Time-coded clips of the exact moment users got stuck. Theme detection across sessions. Compare before/after on a redesign, side by side, in the same dashboard.

04
Deliver
Tagged clips of friction moments, exportable into tools like Linear, Jira or Notion. Observer access for the design team. The fix lands faster because the engineer can watch the user hit the bug.
Where Indeemo Fits

How Indeemo fits usability testing

Dimension
Common approach
What Indeemo adds
Session format
A scheduled, moderated 60-minute lab session over Zoom or in-person, with a think-aloud protocol.
Async tap-to-record sessions on the participant's own time, at their own pace.
Device
A moderator-supplied test laptop or phone, with a sandbox account.
Their own device, their own account, their actual data: the friction they really hit.
Behaviour
Behaviour observed live during a scheduled session, with a moderator present.
You see what they actually click. You hear what they actually mutter. You watch the rage tap that happens just before the abandon.
Output
Findings captured from the moderated session, written up after the sessions wrap.
Friction made visible, at the cadence your sprint runs, with clip evidence the engineer can watch.
Inside The Study

What a researcher actually configures

Sample task brief

A task-based screen recording with voice narration, 5 to 8 minutes. "Open [our product]. Try to [specific task]. Talk us through it as you go: what you expect, what you click, what surprises you. We're testing the design, not you."

Sample post-task reflection

A post-task rating plus text response, captured per task. "After each task, give it a 1 to 5 ease rating and a one-line text response: what was hardest, what was a relief, what would you change?"

Sample analysis output

A friction analysis with severity ranking. "8 of 12 users abandoned at the verification screen. Avg time on screen: 47s. 5 mentioned 'I don't know what to type here.' Theme: input task copy ambiguity. Fix prioritised next sprint."

"We were getting the live data through the Indeemo dashboard. We identified a big usability issue. We spoke to the product team and they were able to release an update halfway through. We really saw a huge difference in people's experiences before and after they pushed out the update."

Usability Testing, answered

How long should a usability study run?
It depends on the depth you need. A single-flow async test can be a short fielding window. Multi-task or multi-session studies run longer. Longitudinal usability stretches across the period of real use. The platform paces to the study, on its own timeline.
How many participants do I need?
For task-based async usability, 10 to 20 users per cohort is typical. Multi-cohort comparison (existing vs. prospect, mobile vs. desktop) scales from there to whatever the study needs, balancing depth per cohort with breadth across cohorts.
Can users record on their own phone or device?
Yes. Participants tap to record within the Indeemo app: iOS or Android, mobile web, mobile app, or desktop. Voice narration is captured alongside the screen.
How does this compare to moderated usability?
Moderated usability gives you a guided session with a moderator present, typically driven by a script. Async usability in Indeemo gives you unmoderated screen recording with voice narration on the user's own device, at whatever length the brief calls for. Different signal, often complementary: teams use both.
How fast can I get clip evidence?
As fast as the brief allows. For sprint-cadence work, clips can land within a turn of the design cycle. Larger studies take longer. Indeemo runs at product speed, not panel speed.
Can I integrate Indeemo with Jira / Linear / Notion?
Tagged clips and other data can be exported for use in tools like Jira, Linear, or Notion. Direct integrations and embed codes for those tools aren't currently part of the platform.
Is the data secure and consent-compliant?
Yes. Indeemo is ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certified, GDPR-aligned. Screen recordings are stored in EU or US data residency. Participants are explicitly consented to screen capture. See Trust & Security for details.
What kind of analysis output do I get?
Researchers in Indeemo tag friction moments, work with voice narration transcripts, track AI-detected themes, build severity-ranked friction lists, and open observer access for cross-functional review. Clips and other data can be exported for use in tools like Jira, Linear, or Notion.
